Installation Technician Position Available
We are seeking a dedicated Installation Technician responsible for assembling, installing, and maintaining custom signs and equipment. The ideal candidate will have a strong mechanical aptitude and a commitment to safety and quality.
Location: Chesnut Signs, Des Moines, IA
Title of position: Installation Technician
Position type: Full-time
Schedule: Monday – Friday; 7:30 am to 4:00 pm
Chesnut Signs has been family owned and operated since 1945. At Chesnut Signs we understand the value of building long-lasting relationships. We specialize in providing products that are manufactured to the highest industry standards and quality that is second to none.
Key Responsibilities:
Assemble and install signs on buildings and other structures.
Configure designs based on site conditions and customer needs.
Follow building standards and codes when installing signage and various products.
Installation of various components using hand or power tools.
Operate various ariel lift equipment within various jobsite conditions.
Examine and test products and equipment for defects to ensure proper functioning.
Tend and observe equipment to verify efficient and safe operation.
Adjust, connect, or disconnect wiring, piping, tubing, and other parts.
Clean, maintain or lubricate vehicles, machinery, equipment, and tools.
Diagnose electrical problems and install or rewire electrical components.
Disassemble and reassemble signage for repairs.
Position vehicles, and equipment for assembly or installation.
Transfer tools, parts, and equipment to and from workstations.
Assist in ordering parts to maintain inventory.
Follow OSHA, DOT, company, job site, and customer safety standards.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Knowledge of and experience with machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Ability to identify and assess issues and formulate solutions.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to perform routine maintenance on equipment.
Knowledge of safety policies and procedures.
Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Continuous learning mindset.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
CDL Class B with airbrakes.
Experience driving forklifts and trailers.
Completion of safety training programs (PPE, ladder, electrical, fall, bloodborne pathogens).
Completion of a 10 or 30-hour OSHA Outreach Training Program.

Key Responsibilities:
As our Sales Project Manager, you’ll work closely with our sales team, customers, installers, and internal departments to ensure smooth planning, execution, and completion of sales and service projects — with a primary focus on signage installation.
Your role includes:
• Coordinating materials, permits, schedules, and staff to meet customer deadlines.
• Managing open permits and ensuring compliance with municipal regulations.
• Communicating with customers to understand their needs and provide solutions.
• Overseeing office tasks such as record-keeping, ordering supplies, and basic bookkeeping.
• Facilitating site visits, installation updates, and customer meetings.
• Collaborating across teams to resolve project and design issues.
• Building and maintaining strong relationships with customers, vendors, and team members.
Qualifications
• Associate’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
• Excellent time management, planning, and organizational skills.
• Strong communication abilities — both written and verbal.
• Ability to manage multiple projects independently with minimal supervision.
• Proactive mindset and a knack for problem-solving.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internet-based tools.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to interpret and comply with municipal permit regulations.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred but not required.
• Experience using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, or sales tracking software is a plus.
